MY EXPERIENCE WITH LOREAL XTENSO HAIR SMOOTHENING

Hey guys, so today I'm going to share my experience with this loreal product which has become so widely popular. I won't bore you with all the procedure details as that any hair stylist will be able to explain to you. Here, I will directly give you my positive and negative views about it like what things I liked and disliked about it.

Well I have done this treatment in march last year and since then I haven't gone for any root touch ups. You will soon know why. Just go on reading.

What I liked about it:

  1. It gives a very natural sleek, super straight, super manageable and silky smooth look.
  2. No more blow drying or ironing before moving out. Just leave your tresses and your good to go.
  3. Well nowadays, with this all-ready look you are always selfie-ready.
  4. Touch-ups can be done every 6 months or even this look can extend upto a year depending how fast your new hair grows. This smoothening is permanent so no matter what the hair apart from your new hair will always remain straight.

What I HATED about it:

  1. A tonne of chemicals loaded on your scalp and hair during this treatment. Remember anything which has a permanent lasting effect will be having many harsh and strong chemicals to alter your natural look.
  2. There is a big danger if the chemicals touch your scalp as it can cause chemical burns leading to stunted hair growth, damage your hair roots and cause alopecia (permanent hair loss) and flaking of scalp (uncontrollable dandruff).
  3. It is a very time consuming process. You have to be in the salon for around 5 hours to get this done. Of course though it depends on the length of your hair.
  4. You have to strictly use the particular shampoo and conditioner the hair stylist asks you to use after the treatment to maintain your hair or else the hair will become brittle and malnourished and eventually get damaged. So a lot of maintenance is needed including paying regular visits every 3 months to the salon for a hair spa. You are also advised to do deep conditioning every weak especially in summers.
  5. The shampoo the salon gives is the loreal xtenso shampoo or the loreal liss ultime which is loaded with keratin and olive oil to nourish your hair and keep it soft and smooth and also shiny but it doesn't help clean your scalp from bacteria and sweat. This tends to make your hair feel dirty and oily. And this my friends, results in dandruff!
  6. Many people have reported a lot of hairfall especially after getting the second and third treatments. I have too experienced a lot of hairfall. I had thick, wavy long tresses and after smoothening my hair started falling out in huge numbers in the shower, my pillow and while combing. So any chemical you apply on your hair either for straightening it o even colouring it, you will experience some hair fall in the start as it tends to weaken your hair shaft and make it brittle, thus making it prone to breakage. Only after repeating this chemical treatments over years do you actually see the damage with your hair as your hairfall increases with every touch up. Only in cases where the hair stylist is not professional enough and touches the chemical right onto your scalp, then you are prone to permanent hair fall.
  7. The other thing is the awkward regrowth that people have to go through after the new hair starts to grow. Especially with the people having originally curly hair.
  8. The expense of doing this treatment and the cost of hair spas, the shampoo, conditioners and serums to maintain it which easily extends to many thousands! When all you're really doing is damaging your hair in the end.
  9. And the last thing is you will eventually get bored of the straight look of your hair. You can't style your hair anymore with curls or waves as you're stuck with the straight hair permanently. It's a long-term commitment so take your decision wisely.

GUYS, you can always turn to treatments which are natural and chemical-free as it won't have any side-effects. If hair is difficult to manage then do some deep conditioning with a lot of essential hair oils.

So my only final words to you are, accept your natural hair that God has given you. And only if it's absolutely necessary and you have frizzy curly hair very difficult to manage then only go for hair smoothening but only in a reputed salon and under the hands of an expert stylist. And before doing that, don't forget to take the advice of your dermatologist who will study your hair before subjecting it to any chemicals.
